good card for basic computing
Ok, I am selling my 9700 Pro because I have no need for such a high end card and need the cash. What I am looking for to replace it is a nice (preferably) ATI card that will cover the following:
basic web browsing
Able to handle 1280 x 1024 @ 85Hz (Clean)
I use photo software and Paint Shop Pro Alot to edit pics
last but not least around $100-130 dollar range.
Just a decent card.
Edit: support for DX9 if possible....
all suggestions welcome.

I would suggest that, if you're not gaming, you won't even have to pay that much. Anything from the 7000 range (or even lower ...) upto the 9200 range will fulfill your needs quite well. The Matrox line of cards also have quite good output quality.
Ahhh DX9 you have added - that narrows it to a 9600 card.
Regards,
Elad.

Yes, I have a 9100 128MB card, and works fine with BF1942, so I assume it would be fine for normal computing. You could always overclock too.

what's the difference or should I say would I notice a difference in the "Pro" and "Non Pro" versions.
I was looking into the
Sapphire Atlantis ATI RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB 8X AGP
or
SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9600 128MB 8X AGP "Non Pro"
There is about a $30 dollar difference in the cards...
I am looking at the 9600 because they support DX9, or should I even worry about DX9 right now???

For general windows duties, I doubt you would notice the difference. Sapphire make good cards. The main difference is that the 9600pro is considerably better (around 40% faster framerates) for gaming.

If you're not gaming, even a £25 card would do you. Maybe invest in a matrox dual head card if you're that way inclined, like a G550 or something, but I wouldn't go overboard on a gaming card if you don't need it.

I concur. Directx9 compliance is mostly for games ...

For general windows stuff you probably only need an 8mb card - so almost anything on the market with good image quality is going to suit you.

im using a nvidia tnt2 16 mb that i bought for $20 Canadian $$$ in my AMD machine. its just a temporary card untill i have neough money to buy a good one but it has been working great. so i guess if this card can work........any card for around $50 would work such as a geforce 4 mx series. and if u want dx9 support (which i doubt u will ever need) get a geforce fx 5200. so basically ANY curent AGP card that is selling in ur local computer store or online will work.

I have been impressed with the Radeon chipsets and the nice picture quality and drivers, so I was looking to stay with ATI. What about the Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9200 128MB Video Card w/ Tv Out, DVI? Or the Gainward GeForce Pro660 FX5200 128MB w/ TV Out? Both are under $100.00 but are in between basic and performance.
