Sounds like you may have the MSBlast (Lovsan) worm. You will need to download the security patch from MS's website then run anti-virus software to remove the worm. The patch for XP/w2k is
KB824146. You can download a removal tool from McAfee.com (called Stinger) or from Norton.com (called FixBlast).
If you can't stay online long enough to download them see if the following will help:
go to start>run. type in services.msc then hit enter. Scroll down to remote procedure call and double click to bring up properties.
(There is also one called remote procedure call locator. You do not want to double click this one.) In properties click on the reovery tab. For first faliure change restart the computer to restart the service. Do the same for second failure and subsequent failures.
This should allow you to stay online long enough to download the patch and removal tool. Apply the patch first. You will need to
disable your system restore function (XP/ME) before running the removal tool.
After you have removed the worm be sure to go back to services.msc and reset the recovery options to restart the computer.
