Disabling eMachine T3100 On-board Graphics Controller

OK...went to BIOS and nothing there to allow me to disable, only to change to PCI, which it was already set to.

Checked mobo and there appears to be no jumpers. BTW the mobo is a AN810(e)

Installed card and started up machine with monitor connected to my old video controller...black screen adn doesn't boot. Obviously a conflict.

Re-booted with monitor connected to new card and all that appeared was eMachines startup screen, but never went any further.

Am I screwed? I just can't accept that there is no trick to override something like this, but maybe that is the case.

Thanks for your help.

Messed with a neighbors eM once but its been awhile---I think if you goto their website and look up your specific model (in the faqs section?) it will assist you in doing the change you desire---have a look...

Welcome to the forum!

Well its a good sign that you saw some video at least from the new card....the only thing I can think of right offhand is try it in another slot? Kind of unscientific but sometimes it works.

And possibly you could search online for some emachine forum or webpage....I have ran across some from time to time....where there may be some firums to discuss where they know emachine specifics.

I wonder if disabling the onboard video in device manager before putting in the new card might help?

Out of curiousity, if you have the new card in and the monitor cable hooked to it, can you boot ok in safe mode?

First, thanks for the quick replies!!! And thanks for teh welcome.

Well, since I thought there was a conflict, I did try one other PCI slot (only three available and two are used by ethernet card and modem). Used the empty slot first, then pulled modem and tried that....still the same deal.

I did disable onboard video once and still got the same startup screen and it didn't go any further, which I thought should've worked. I didn't use the modem slot after disabling on-board video. Not sure is that would work.

I've also hit the F8 key to get into safe mode, but again, it won't boot past startup.

The only other things that I can think of are:

1. I didn't disable modem in device manager before trying that slot.
2. I haven't tried ethernet card slot either.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!

Thanks for your advice.

I started at their website and it did have a FAQ about disabling on-board video, however, it only addressed those machines that could be changed by adjusting jumpers. Of course, mine wasn't one of them!

I will try to locate an eMachines group and see what they say as well.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

i got the exact same comp

hey I got the t3100 too, .... if u want to get into safe mode u dont press f8, u have to hold the shift key down to get into it......

I had a black screen too when i put in a pci graphics card.... but it was because my refresh rate was set too high for my monitor, so i simply turned it down.

good luck!

Got a 64MB ATI Radeon DDR PCI card. My refresh rate is set at 60 Hertz. Too low?
