Reducing Fan Noise

So after reading countless threads on lowering case/fan noise I finally decided I may need to do something to my case. I had a piece of 1/8" thick craft foam with adhesive on one side lying around (I was going to use it as a gasket in a HD mod but that never came to pass) so I figured I’d give it a shot. I traced the outline of a fan and cut out the center to allow the airflow for each of my 4 fans, stuck it to my case and reattached my fans. All I can say is SWEET JESUS! it sounds like I’ve reduced my case noise by 50%... all I can hear now is the slight hum of the fan an the little noise the air makes blowing through the grilles.... for anybody who hasn’t done something like this I really recommend it.. Your ears will thank you.

Case? I have a lian-li and definitely could use less noise! I can get non-adhesive craft foam @ Wal-Mart, and I'll figure a way out to apply it I guess, but just in case, where'd you get the foam and how much was it?

Finally, got any pics?

Just as an alternative suggestion but on the same idea, I used some spare offcuts of padded linoleum for my fan "gaskets".

Used the square outline of the fan body for the outside of the gasket, then mounted it into the case, and used the hole cut in the case to mark the circle to be cut from the lino...

A simple ghetto mod that cost nothing, and is very effective!!
