SuSE 9.0 is released

Hello
I just realized while checking the Linux distro SuSE's website that they have released the new version of their distro (9.0) I dont know if this is old news for some guys but I havent checked their site in a while and I really like SuSE as a distro, I think its great. I also discovered their site has been updated, I think the site itself looks great. A minor discoverment that I saw was that they changed a bit their logo (the chameleon) to a more modern looking one. Not a big change but if you are an observant person as I am you discover these things. Unfortunately they didnt change the fact that the distro is still not free. As last version (8.2) you have the live evaluation version of it which is free and you can do a ftp install (free) of it but they do not have free iso files of this version. I guess they know whats best for them but I think its kind of dissapointing since I am really interested to see how this version is and I really like their products. As I stated maybe this is old news or maybe this has been posted before but I still wanted to share what I recently discovered. The improvements this version has you can find here: SuSE 9.0 From what I have read and seen the improvements are most interface, (KDE's and GNOME's latest versions are on this release) and office too (OpenOffice's latest version 1.1) As I said I am really looking forward to know more about this release and I believe many others are too. Enjoy

I'm checking out the LiveEval version of 9;so far it's pretty nice except your go thru the hardware detection/configuration stage like a regular install, which takes awile, but that's just me griping because I'm used to Knoppix et.al. loading up alot faster.
It's good for someone who wants to take a dry run thru the installation and check out the OS without actually installing anything.
Amazon is charging $65+ for Pro when it's in stock.(They say theres a 2-3 day wait for shipping)

The idea of having a Live Evaluation version is in my opinion excellent. You dont have to install anything, you dont have to use your hard drive, everything with the CD. Sure it takes time to detect the hardware and configure everything correctly before you can start using it but I think its worth it. I did try out SuSE 8.2 with the Live evaluation I believe and I have no regrets what so ever. I do have some opinions though, first since it doesnt use your hard drive and only loads from the CD it can feel a bit slow, I experienced slowness while trying it. From what I remember the Live Evaluation version doesnt let you choose what to 'install' or more correct to load from the CD, to make it easier to understand what I am trying to tell I would say it loads everything, its like installing SuSE completely with everything. That can be heavy but its great since you will know what to choose from when you have the complete version and you have tried most things before.

After looking a while in the site and reading I think this version of SuSE is promising. Doesnt look too different compared to the last version but that can be a positive thing. What I think is wrong is the price tag of the operating system. Sure its much cheaper than Windows XP but I still think its pretty expensive. And to not offer a free iso file for public is dissapointing. Netherless I must say this Linux distro so called SuSE is growing each day and I think they have what it takes to be a top Linux distro.
