Demands of LCD Monitors ?

I installed a new Dell FP1900 LCD Monitor on my GF's Sony Duran800 with intergrated S3 graphics sharing 32 Mbs of 512 SDRAM...and the picture sucked.

It looked washed out in its native resolution so I backed down to a lower rez. Results? Improvement, but nothing still to boast about.

My problem is that is the only Computer working right now so how do I know if the new LCD monitor is any good ?

QUESTION: Can I reasonably suppose that the Duran 800mhz Computer's minimal intergrated graphics is at fault ?

This is a Pivot 19" LCD purchased at $1/3 off and we don't want to send it back unnecessarily.

Thanks.

Reasonably suppose? yes. Know for sure? You'll have to try it in another system to be sure.

You need the digital output to get any good out of an LCD. I had a FP1800 for a client at my location and the graphics stunk when not on the digital.

Just my personal experience.

***tony reads implextant's post and whacks himself on the head for not remembering that***

Really, it depends on the LCD, some are still made with DB-15 conncetors.

Actually the FP1900 had dual analog/digital connectors --but the intergrated graphics of the store-baught Sony Duron800 has only the intergrated SIS730 S3 graphics --and , of course, no DVI.

DOOOOOG

Probably take a chance and hold on to it...making a relacement for my dead computer which can support high graphics.

Still I wonder............

I had a similar case w/ on-board graphics, where the MSI board was 3 or 4 years old. It would not support the LCD. you prolly need a graphics card. Although you don't have a DVI output, a std. VGA should still look good. . .

you can pick up a DVI card for under $80, well worth it IMO.

I'm gonna have all my computers with DVI --except the GF's SONY which doesn't have AGP, so I can run anyone of them
on LCD or CRT.

I do have an old PCI Couger with TV out I guess I could install and get Dual vision. I was told by the bright lights at SONY that the intergrated AGP X2 will still operate if I add a PCI card for Video.
