Kids How to change from NT to Win98

I have an old P180 dual CPU system that runs NT4. I wanted to use Win98 instead. But the system won't let me downgrade. The system won't take the Win98 bootup floopy. Is there some files I need to remove first?
Thanks for info.

2 things.
1) 98 WON'T install if there's an NTFS partition on the system. You will need to delete this.
2) 98 won't use both the CPUs, in effect you will be not only going to 98, you'll be ditching one of the processors as well.

Thanks for the great info, nukes. I think it's a bad idea to switch to 98 then. Can I upgrade to XP? The system is so old. It only has 64MB RAM. I think it's the old SIMM. Do you know what kind of RAM I can buy to satisfy XP requirement?

64Meg is the minimum the load the os and at least 256MB is recommended for normal usage. But besides the memory, your hardware needs to be supported. Check out this link:

With dual P-180s, why not just do a repartition/reformat NTFS/reinstall NT4, and install SP-6. NT4 will be less demanding of your available hardware than XP, and NT4 is still a great, very solid OS. I've been running a web server on NT4/SP6... it's been on essentially 24/7 since late 1998 (except for service pack/security update reboots)

If anything, go to Windows2000. The min requirement is P133 and 64M..and they always claimed it was faster on 64M than W98 was.

Or maybe jump on the linux bandwagon

Trust me, W2K is MUCH slower than W98 using 64MG of ram and a socket 7 processor (I use P233). But it will be more stable.

I'd go with 2k if you want a change. I don't see the problem with NT though, its stable and solid. I wouldn't stick XP on it though, it would kill it.
Great suggestion from John Prophet, Linux rocks, and that system would let you get into it. (My first Linux box was a 486DX2 with 16mb ram, and I loved it)
