2500+ or K7N2 causing high temps?

I recently switched out my Abit KX7 and 2200+ for a 2500+ and a K7N2. This setup idles at about 42-44 degrees, which seems too high....its in a very well cooled Antec case with an Aero 7+. The thing I noticed about the MSI board is that the mosfets and northbridge radiate heat directly up to the HS....the sides and top of the heatsink are cool but the bottom is hot.

I'm curious to know other peoples temps with the same setup and setups with the 2500 using other boards.

I have always read that motherboards can be as much as 10 degrees off when reading CPU temp. But i also believe that those numbers might be pretty normal for the 2500+. The Barton core is bigger and gives off more heat than the 2200+ core.

you might want to try switching out the HS/F for a newer one. Also, what kind of thermal compound are you using, and what kind did you use with the old setup?

44-45 C seems to be normal but on a high side.
You should be getting those temps under Load tho.
Look at your case air flow, as well as at the HS/F you have and the compound you are using.

Well, I suppose I could try to fit another heatsink on there, but I really like the Aero blower fan. I used AS3 for both the new and old systems. As far as the case, it's an Antec SOHO with 5 80mm fans, plus the psu fans. The old 2200 idled at around 32-35 degrees with the same setup.

That's not quite true...
The Model 8 T-Bred XP2200+ delivers 67.9W of heat when max'ed out, while the Model 10 Barton XP2500+ puts out 68.3W max'ed (both at default 1.65vcore). They both put out nearly the same amount of heat.

The Barton core is physically larger, hence affords more contact surface area with the heat sink base, and will more effectively transfer heat to the heat sink where it can be dissipated.

My suspicion is the higher temps that frostDA9 sees are related to how the BIOS treats the type/position of the Barton CPU's thermal sensor. Maybe a BIOS update would return readings to a more "normal" state?

I guess before I started worrying about hardware heat issues I should have made sure that all the clips on the heatsink were fully seated.

DOH!

She's rock solid at 37 now. Thanks for the advice guys, but as it turns out the problem was operator incompetence

At work we have a saying that most problems are a PICNIC

PICNIC = Problem In Chair Not In Computer
