Colour catridge does not work

I just replaced my old colour cartridge with a new one. No colour seems to be printing. I ran all the cartridge tests and it all comes out in black. At least I know the black cartridge works. I bought the cartridge from a reputable dealer that I have dealt with before.

Mu computer is a HPpavillion 7940
I'm using XP professional
printer is a HPdeskjet 920C
cartridge is HP c6578d #78

I'm wondering if it is a cartridge problem or is something blocked in the printer. I will try to replace cartridge. Shouldn't the printer let me know there is a problem with the cartridge or blockage or something?

Any suggestions.

Did you remove the tape from the head before you installed the cartridge? Its possible you got a dried up cartridge.

Make sure you got the proper cartridge but I think you did. I have a 932c and I uses #78 as well as #45. Look in the printer's toolbox and it'll tell you what cart to use.

Here's an idea. Look in your printer's properties and see if you got grayscaling checked. Should be unchecked. Other than that it may be a bad cartridge.

Well, there arent too many options here, hehe....either you have to find a "cartridge clean" option in the printer utilities...whcih you then use to "get the cartridge going"....or else maybe its a bad cartridge.

Sometimes they get gummed up I guess...sometimes on certain printers you have to print a bit before they work. We used to sell a certain printer, cant remember the brand....but you had to print pages until the print flowed well....silly I know.

I would try to make a test page using microsoft paint....just some yellow, blue, red lines or circles or something......nothing black...then just print it a few times and see if any color flows...if you are cheap like me you just take the same sheet out and feed it thru again.

I'm starting to think it is the cartridge. I guess that is a good thing since the printer is more expensive to repair (knock on wood). I purchased my ink from ebay from a reputable dealer that I dealt with before. Now I'm starting to realize that it may be more trouble then it is worth. They want me to send back the defective cartridge, they must analyze it for ink remaining and then send one back to me. That is quite a delay and effort needed on my part. I hope I get compensated for as well as for the post.

I've done a bunch of test pages to no avail. What I find strange is that it prints in black instead. I was wondering why the printer does not send a message telling me the colour does not work instead of printing in black.

When you put the cartridge in did it go thru some sort of install procedure? In other words, my epson always puts up a little pop up saying "you have installed a non epson cartridge blah blah blah"

Did it do that or similar? I am hinting that maybe it doesnt realize you have a new cartridge.....

Is this the first time you changed the colour cartridge...or the first time that you used these particular cartridges?

Before I put in the cartridge the empty cartridge would cause the cart to slide to the other side where it would point to a no ink indicator. When I replaced it, the cart slid to a smiley face indicator meaning that all was well.
