Slow Mandrake 9.2 Boot

I people since yesterday im experiencing slow perfomance on mandrake, it took like 5 minutes to boot, if i make a failsafe boot, I get to bash very quick, when i change it to init 5, when it gets to event logger (something like that dont remember the name right now), it keeps there a lot of time, next process the same, when i finally got to the desktop, it was very slow to load applications, the only thing i noticed is that my internet was down last night and I installed Mplayer to view a dvd....

Anyone had this problem before?

Try disabling some of your services with drakconf. Chances are you have ftp, telnet, ssh, www, rsync, swat, webmin, and every other one under the sun started.
Only start the ones you need at boot. If you ever need any others you can just start it with the init script (in /etc/init.d) or re-enable it.

/var/log
When you say this started when you installed mplayer, how did you install it?
is the log directory full? It may be cycling the logs. (deleting old ones and renaming others etc)

If you're using like ext2 or something it may have been defragging or fsck in the background. I don't use mandrake, I couldn't really tell you what the cause was, but I'm glad its sorted.

im not using ext2, im using journalise file system, and it was not defragging, i booted like 3 times and the 3 times I waited up to the KDE and Logged out and restarted the computer.
The weird thing about this is the only variable yesterday is that my internet connection was live again, I want to test this before I assure this but my theory is that the system was trying to ping or reach an internet address, not sure just teory... because I had an IP address from the ISP, they had problems with the DNS requests, they weren't reaching its destination.
