Old Laptop

Hi all, I have an old laptop on my home network. Its a toshiba satellite 310 CDS, with a pentium(r) MMX 200MHz cpu. It has 32 MB ram, but I've ordered the max allowable to bring it up to 96MB. How can I make this machine faster. Can I change the cpu for an pentium(r) MMX 300MHz, or can I even change it for something faster. What about overclocking, what can I do to this machine in that regard?

All help appreciated.

laptops can't be upgraded much because heat can become a big issue. They try to be as minimal as they can on everything because of power, and size constraints, but at the same time they want to through as much as they can into it. Basicly what e980238 said is true. Only a few things can be upgraded. Some new laptops allow you to upgrade the graphics card, but thats still only on top end things.

Depending on what the BIOS will allow you may be able to add a larger faster hard drive. Ex.) 20GB 5400RPM. The faster hard drive speed may help you some. Also don't try and run anything after 98SE if you are going to Windows. That laptop would be more suited for Linux.

oh, you might try windows lite. Supposedly you can take all the fluff that you don't really need in windows such as all the web features that slow it down and make it buggy. That would take very little HD space and run a lot better then the normal windows. Just a thought though.
