Yes, you need to encode the movie to standard dvd format before you can hope to watch it on standalone dvd player.
For that, you would need a program that understands the native ati format (I'm assuming this is what you've captured to), and is able to convert from that to mpeg2.
I'll look for something... If I can figure what format ati uses. Best would, though be, if you could just post here what format you originally captured to.

//edit: It says at ati page that wonder ve can capture to mpeg and avi. (doesn't state if there's a native format or not).
So, probably your video file is mpeg1.
