have two CPU towers need to see if work

Ok, I'm a little rusty with hardware. Here's the gist. Bought two PCs at a yard sale. They had been sort of scavanged (memory taken out, no HD). Want to see if they work. Course, they said they did before scavanged.
Want to get at least one to work as a server (preferrably the Gateway, given proprietary HP, and can add more memory with Gateway) to use for either Win2000 or Linux:

Referring to the question posts, here are some info. I have:

1. What kind of processor is it?

Have HP Pavilion 7920 (Intel Celeron 900Mhz) and Gateway SELECT K7-700 (AMD?)

2. What operating system are you using. Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, Apple, Linux, Unix or whatever your flavor is.

The systems didn't come with HDs, so a moot point.

3. What have you done to try to fix the problem. Everything you did to try to fix needs to be list so we don't waste our time or yours telling you to do something you have already tried.

I hooked up a HD I had available to both to see if they booted up. When turning each on, get a blank screen (no cursor, nothing). The HD and power supply runs like everything is hunkey dorey. Get no beeps to tell me if anything is wrong. Neither system I believe has memory at the moment other than what is on the motherboard.

4. Please tell us if anything is attached to the computer. Usb or other devices. Or the device that is not working tell us about it. What brand, are you running the newest updates?

Only has keyboard, mouse, monitor attached to each when checking.
Without anything showing on a screen, hard to tell.

5. Didn't find anything on search here.

Neither manufacturers web sites have been helpful.

What else can I try to see if these systems work? Do I have to add extra memory first? I should at least get a blinking cursor and something on the screen. Tryed to access BIOS as well, no luck. The other mystery is no beeps to guide me.

I think you will need some memory..even if you just have a spare 64m stick or something in one of your other comps....you will need some memory to see if they boot up correctly.
