9800 pro compatible with WIN 98SE??
I'm trying to find out for certain if the ATI Radeon 9800 pro will work with WIN 98SE. (specifically the "built by ATI version)
Seems like the box & ATI website say that WIN ME and above are supported, but many of the other card manufacturers claim WIN 98 support.
Does anyone know for sure?? I'd be particularly interested in the experiences from anyone who's personally installed one on a WIN 98 system.
Thanks

I think it is save to say that if it is Windows ME certified, it'll run on 98 too.
ME is just a more graphical version of 98 with more built in drivers and a few minor changes.
Tell ya what, I'll try them at work, I'll install windows 98 on a machine and install an 9800 built by ATI on it.
Will get back to you tommorrow, will be trying it out on an nForce2 board, but can also try on an Intel 865 based board if ya want.
Just reply which ya want, I'll read it at work.

Ultima - that would be great, if its not too much trouble for you
The nForce2 board woud be fine.
I'm kind of assuming the same thing you did - if it works with ME, it should work with 98SE. But I'm doing the installation for someone else & I don't want to buy the card & have to return it because its not compatible with the OS.
It seems that in some circles, WIN 98 is pretty much considered obsolete - so they aren't "officially" supporting it anymore.

Well, I e-mailed ATI about this, & here is their response:
"Although we do not support or list it on our website, it will most likely work using the Windows 98/ME drivers provided on our corporate website."
How's that for a definitive answer?? |

Yep,
I tested it, works fine.
Used Catalyst 3.8 drivers, ran a few hours of 3DMark2003, no problem at all.
