negative processor?

my friend recently consulted me about a problem with his computer. Unfortunately i have no idea whats wrong. He's running a p4 at 3ghz (sorry thats all the info i have at the time being) im assuming its premade (dell or somesuch) and he just bought the game Black and White. Whenever he trys to play this game, however, he gets an error message telling him that his game will not work because he has a processor speed of some large NEGATIVE number! I used to play this game on my mom's old dell p3 1ghz until i went amd. This problem only happens when he trys to play this game, all other games work fine. Has anyone ever heard of this problem, and if so, what can be done to fix it? any input would be appreciated, thx!

I'd look for a patch for the game. It sounds like a code error that may have been corrected already by the game manufacturer.

Does this problem stop the excecution of the game? I've often seen installers which will warn you of subpar system requirements but then you can usually just skip them and move on. I haven't installed B&W in a while, so I forget if you could do this.

I had a system with a negative processor once..it was freaky....when I played breakout the screen would start empty and then fill up with bricks.

Ruahrc: no, it actually keeps him from playing the game, as if his system did not have the required hardware to play it, but obviously it cant have a negative mhz.

daveleau: i figured it might be something like that, but i took your suggestion and told him to go look for a patch somewhere and tell me if that helps. If so i will post here and tell yous how it went. thx

This is why P2P should stay alive. I just went looking for that patch, and all I got was a run-around for the first 5 places I checked who had hits for the patch on Google.
