Put the first floppy in....double click "my computer"...double click the "3 1/2 floppy a: drive" ........that will open up the first floppy to show you what kind of files are on it.

Either you can tell us whats on it or....

If there is an .exe file you probably just double click it....

Or if it is a.zip file you have to unzip it first using winzip.

Once you get the first floppy going it will probably tell you when to put in the second one.

Floppie disc

Hi John
Thanks for your reply. Did what you said and I got this message "The disc in drive A is not formatted. Do you want to format now" If I format ,won't that erase the data on the disc.

Where did you get the floppies from? Are they old? What program is it?

Do they have anything written on them for instructions?

The only thing I can think of is to try them in a different machine.

This is almost impossible to conceive...but it could be that the floppy drive in your new machine is defective. Have you read any other diskettes in it since you bought the machine?... as has been mentioned, try those two diskettes in some other computer and also try a known good diskette in your new computer. When a diskette is formatted, it is done in a kind of spiral way..meaning it is an endless spiral from start to finish. In between these "spiral tracks" is unformatted areas... if a floppy disk drive's read/write heads get out of calibration and are trying to read a formatted disk outside of its formatted area, you will get that disk not formatted error.

could be a nasty copy protection system formatted the floppies as it installed the program to hard drive. can you call the software company and ask?
