Kids New Telus Anti-Virus called FREEDOM

Is anyone using this anti-virus software? Its provided free with ADSL. I was using Norton but my subscription has run out and I was thinking of just using this? Any suggestions?

Don't worry about antivirus stuff, it's all just a scam. Unless you're a total idiot and you download viruses on a regular basis, you really don't need antivirus software.

I seen a few people in the area use it. It does seem to work if you update it regularly and do manual scans.

It doesn't seem to update by itself very well and do scheduled scans but other than that it actually works... sometimes.

I personally don't like it very much. I takes a long time to load on startup. It's even worse on a slow machine seems like it takes forever to load and get past it's splash screen. Then you have to minimize it to get it out of the way.

Oh and if you happen to loose your internet conection forget about getting that thing started. It looks for something on the web on startup if it doesn't find it you have to wait even longer to do anything.. Most times the program stops responding.

It does have the ability to integrate a pop up stopper, a firewall, parental controls etc... Oh ooops those are extra (for a small fee of $4.95 each a month you can have those). If you get all the options you are looking at a pretty hefty internet bill each month.

I say go out and buy a copy of Norton and save yourself some headaches or update your subscription to Norton it's only like $30USD or was it $20USD. Hmm you could prolly get a new version from Future Shop, Staples or Office Depot for that price. Or check out a store that has OEM versions they are even cheaper.

Just my opinion

Ya Norton does seem safer. And in regards to Shawn's comment, I have caught viruses trying to get in my computer while surfing in dirty places.

Media

That may be true for the safe surfing type, but novice/noobies should use an updated anti virus program.
I have family members that use my computer so to be on the safe side I have installed AVG 6.0 Anti-Virus System(freeware edition)updated on a regular basis.

Also I would suggest using a firewall.
It seems many use the freeware version of ZoneAlarm.

Soheils91 that works in some cases but if you have done all the live updates for Norton it changes the program so you can't do that anymore. Even if you do the uninstall of Norton and LiveReg and LiveUpdate plus delete the various program directories.

It hides itself in the regisrty. Now I've noticed this for version 2002 and 2003 (2003 mostly) but the earlier ones it didn't do that so that method may or may not work but it's worth a try anyway.

Wouldn't Norton have caught on to that by now?
