ipod took a crap

I have an ipod for windows. I got it at christams time, 2002. It worked fine for 9 months or so, then refused to synch. with my computer. I had plenty of space on my ipod's drive, so needles to say, I was frustrated. I tried to use the restore function on the ipod updater program. (v 1.2.1) A few minutes into the process, the updater said there was a firmware problem and shut down. Now everything has been erased off my ipod. It won't even come up to any type of menu when I try to reset it. Whenever I try to restore the ipod again, it immediately says my firmware is not compatible, disk write error. I want to beat my ipod down, seeing that I now have a paper weight worth more than my car. If any one has an ideas, please let me know. I'm trying to avoid the $40 apple tech. support fee. Thanks, -DB

I finally got my ipod to restet. I'm not sure how, but somehow one or a combination of the many downloads from mac worked. However, I'm back to the original problem of the ipod not sync.-ing with my library. So far, I can only export songs to my ipod one at a time. This takes a long time to move 600 songs. If anyone has any tips for faster transfers, please let me know. Thanks to all who looked over my first post. -DB
