Mp2 Shrinking

I captured a movie off of TV onto my PC using a TV Card, Its a MP2 and its 6.6 GB, I would like to put it on a DVD+R but I cant find any software to encode it to a smaller MP2.

Does any one know of a proggy that will do this efficiently?

MP2? You mean Mpeg2?

You can use TMPGenc to do that. You'll have to re-encode and that and will take some time. That would be an overnight sort of thing..

I won't bother using a different codec either if you want to play the movie in a stand alone dvd player.

I've recorded a few shorter tv shows (say 5-10 mins), and they are usually a couple gigs as mpeg3, and I found by popping them into Windows Movie Maker2 (free from MS) I can get them down to about 100 or so mbs without any real degridation in quality. I have an ATI TV Wonder, though I used an 8500AIW before hand, and in both cases the WMM trick worked for both cases. You might try it, but like Scott mentioned it is a long process.
