Kids POS Systems & Touchscreens

Greetings all-

I've been reading recently about setting up POS (point of sale) systems for restaurants/bars, etc. and I'm coming across something that I have never dealt with before.

Whenever I read about touchscreen monitors, they always mention that they come in either Resistive, Capacitive, or SAW versions. I'm familiar with resistance, capacitance, etc. but I have never heard these terms in reference to an LCD or CRT monitor. Does is have something to do with the way the monitor perceives touch?

Any detailed info and/or links would be greatly appreciated. Also, any info/articles you could send my way about setting up more robust POS systems would be great also

I want to absorb as much data as possible at this point!

Capacitive is all but dead. They still exist for those rare instances where you have a particular application that is very "touchy" about its touchscreen, like some DOS applications. We had a hard time finding one for our old metal working machine at work.

How do the types differ? What advantages/disadvantages does one system have over the other? Are there any programs/applications that would require the use of a specific technology??

Tell me more!
