Holly!! (LinuxISO.org Related)
My friend was asking for Redhat 9 CD and I couldnt find the file that I had downloaded from LinuxISO.org so I decided to download it again. I use Lightning Download (A download accelerator software) and it helps to use different mirrors do accelerate the download. Today I started to download the files and I noticed that my internet connection was faster than usual since the download speed was close to 500KB/sec. The thing is that when I started to download CD 2 of Redhat 9 it donloaded it in seconds while CD 1 is still downloading (currently speed in 450KB/sec) I thought the mirror I downloaded from had mistaken and was sharing a file that was small in size (since these iso files of the CD's are close to 700Mb in size) but I checked it in the folder where the finished downloads arrive and the size of it was the actuall size (that is near 700Mb). What I am confused about is how could it download such a huge file in seconds? I am scared of the file since it can be corrupted or I dont know I am just confused since it downloaded the file so fast its almost impossible. I am using a 256kb internet connection (Radio waves technology) and this speed has never occured to me ever. The other file (CD 1) is still downloading. I got so impressed but I am still thinking this cant be true. I am very confused..

Use the md5 sums to check if the file is ok, but it's possibly corrupted 700mb in a few seconds . If I where you I'd check the md5 sums or try downloading the file again to see if it does the same thing.

This program I use 'Lightning Download' keep record of the time the download took, the average KB/sec, when you added the file, and when you finished the file. The strange part is that where its suppose to tell you the time the download took it doesnt say anything (empty), same thing in where its suppose to say the average KB/sec. The rest is like this:
Added At: 2003/10/27 20:14
Finished At: 2003/10/27 20:15

EDIT: l will try that out DBest, thanks for the advice |

Another reason why it might have downloaded so fast is because since you had already downloaded it before, it might have still been in the cache, or the "Temporary Internet Files" and that's why it went so fast. Because, all it did was transfer from your computer back to your computer.
But, regardless, always check the file with an MD5SUM generator, and compare it to the MD5 file on the LinuxISO.org site for that CD. If they are the same, then you'll know it's an exact digital copy, therefore there won't be any corruption in the file.

Nope, thats aint possible david, at least in this situation since I deleted the file of CD 2 that I had downloaded before (and I downloaded that file a long time ago) I forgot to mension that since I knew people would tell me that. And I clean my Temporary Internet Files all the time so nothing related to the file could be in my computer (at least what I know) CD 1 just finished and I am going to burn the files to CD's and try them out and see if CD 2 is weird or something very strange happened (I mean downloading a 700Mb file in seconds is just a dream, aint it?)

While I am burning the files to some CD's I decided to download the CD 2 file again from the same mirror as the one that took me seconds to download. This one didnt finish in seconds though, its in the speed of 350KB/sec and it will take probably 40 min to finish. This shows that the file that I downloaded a while ago is not in the cache or the 'Temporary Internet Files' in my machine. I am still clueless of the file that got downloaded in seconds though. Should I burn it to a CD so see if it works or just delete it? I must say I am a bit curious to see if its a 100% working file or not. If it is I will say that a miracle happened

dan | EDIT: Where can I get this so called MD5SUM generator? I want to try it out to be sure about the file that got downloaded in seconds.

Hey Dan check this out to check for the MD5 sums http://linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/verifyiso.html . Hope that helps . BTW you also need to cp/paste or download the MD5 sum for each image.

Well, so I downloaded the program (MD5 Sums) and checked both the seconds download file and the 40 minutes one (same files, same size) No errors on both of them, exactly the same. So I guess the file of 700Mb was downloaded in seconds and is completely error free. I am just going to do the final test on it: burn it to a CD and see if it works to install Redhat from it. If it does I would just say Incredible
Thanks guys for the help!

It is still possibly that the file was on your hard disk Dan, when you deleted it you may have only deleted the file marker -I have seen that happen before.
