Partition magic Mix up

I've been reading here a lot haven't posted much but i just ran into a problem that i need help with.

My roomate wanted to do me a favor and help me format my computer. I gave him the go ahead. Well he opened up partition magic and partitioned the drive that my windows XP is on this was also the OS that the program was installed on. Now all i have is Windows 98 and i cannot for the life of me get into the other partition to reinstall XP.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

Welcome to techimo 2001SE.
Just to see where you are at, did you boot from the WinXP CD?

Cheers!

yes i did boot from the win xp CD after i merged both partitions with F disk. When i boot from my XP CD it gets half way through installation then says that i have had the OS previously installed and it aborts setup.

Tried everything i could.

Thanks,

You will need another partition to install XP.

Load Partition Magic into Win98. Use it to create the partition out of the merged partition. Resize your merged partition.
The unallowcated space left over will be used to create the new partition to install WinXP.

Cheers!
