Systems oh dear, plz help

http://www.tcdweb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/madcolours.jpg

that is what happens whenever i try and play any game on my pc. I have a Radeon 9700, 512mb DDR, AMD athlon 2200XP+.

Its started doing this more and more often, and whenever i leave the game the vertical lines remain on my desktop. A reboot seems to get rid of them and they wont re-appear until i try and play another game. its a little crazy and starting to drive me nuts just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar problem or can recommened any methods to resolve the problem.

Eek! Is it just w/ games?

What OS are you using?

Maybe a fresh install of DirectX will fix this.

Whatever it is, it looks ugly, please don't post anymore screenshots until it's fixed.

im using windows 2000.

I have all current drivers, uptodate DirectX, tried re-seating the gfx card in its AGP slot and its not being overclocked.

If it is overheating its just come out of the blue, makes no sense, any other suggestions cause buying a new card is really not what i intend to do.

Thanks

I had a GF3 Ti200 that started doing the same thing. It's in a recycle bin now, going to the curb tomorrow. I did pull the HSF and RAMSINKS off for later use.

But, if you're not getting those problems using your other applications, then I'd say it's gotta be driver or DX causing the problem.

What version of DX are you using? 9b is the latest I believe, just reinstall it.

Same w/ your drivers. Don't just install over the old, use 'Add/Remove Programs' to get rid of them, then install new from ATi.

If you think it's overheating, try running w/ the side off your case. If the game looks normal, then you've got an airflow problem.

If it was overheating your game would probably lock up, just like mine did when my 9100 was overheating, so I doubt it's that, but you never know.

im just about to try re-installing everything. The problem is now occuring as i boot up, the vertical lines appear on my desktop and the windows and asus logo are all distorted.

Ill let u know if re-installing anything works, looking a bit doubtful now tho, think its gone and died on me.

I heard some problems can be due to bad/or damaged RAM as well, It would be good to hear if anyone as any info on this

Thank you again guys.

Well try this boot
Download the latest drivers from ATI..

Before you install the drivers use an application that come in the directory, usually ati and another directory, use the utility to remove all the drivers for your video card, reboot and reinstall the drivers.

Hope this works...
