WinXP Pro trouble. Diagnose Tools?

My computer have been so slow the last couple of days.
It is like sirup! I can click on Internet Explorer, and it takes up to 20 seconds before it starts.
It is like that with all programs.

Downloading my email takes FOREVER.

Does anyone know of any Diag tools or something like that, that is able to analyse the contents on the computer, and give suggestions as to what can be done?

I do not want to format the disk, and reinstall.

But if this continues, I have no choise.

Hope that someone can help with some suggestions here.

Here are a couple things to try:

1) Check the event logs for any warnings or errors.

2) Check the task manager for processes running in the background hogging your system recourses.

Do you have antivirus on the pc? If so what kind and is it up to date?

Have you scanned for spyware? If not, download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or AdAware (you can use them both.) Let whichever one you choose clean up any spyware it finds.

Then get CWShredder and run it (link to the download is near the bottom of the page). Neither Spybot nor AdAware are effective in getting rid of this one and it will cause massive system slowdowns such as you are experiencing.

In addition to the other suggestions (and I love AdAware):

I haven't looked at XP for a while -- other versions of Windows have a Disk Cleanup utility under Programs, Accessories, System Utilities. Check that out and run it if it's there.

Also try defragging. Diskeeper
