try going to linuxiso.org and taking a look @ knoppix.. it's cd based and a little bit slower than linux would be if running off a HDD BUT It will let you take a test drive of linux without having to repartition a hdd

You would want to download Knoppix...

Just burn the image to a CD, and pop it in your cd drive, then restart your computer and voila! you can use a linux distro without even putting anything on your hard drive! Also, you can use a floppy to save your settings too...

HTH,

David

You could also try Virtual PC for Windows which should allow you to run Linux within Windows. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/virtualpc/

Or you could also try out SuSE 8.2, you can run it from the CD exactly as Knoppix and its more newbie friendly than Knoppix IMO. Its a very easy 'installation' since it doesnt use your Hard drive and its very newbie frendly. Its available at LinuxISO.org

A very nice solution, albeit definitely not opensource... if you get my drift.

I forgot about workspot, Doh!

It's a program that can run on most OSes, and it will run Virtual Machines, or "fake computers" within an OS.

VMWare's really pretty spiffy. And, it's really pretty expensive.
