VHS to DVD Burning

Trying to copy the childrens movies from their VHS format to the DVD burner. Any suggestions on how to do this after the hardware is connected?Connect VHS output to TV input on Video card, put in movie and play. Do I have to save the movie in a file or can I burn as the movie plays?

What software came with the burner? That would be the main point.

My next problem is that I don't think the video card has TV IN.
THere are four connections in the back,
The standard connection for the monitor
A "S" Video connection,video out
RCA#1 connection- Comp/out

probably you can do it either way depending on a LOT of factors...that could be a variation on the ol' "should I copy the cd to the hard drive first" question. I would think it would take a killer system to really burn dvd's on the fly like that.

But I am not sure...ive got a dvd burner and havent used it yet, lol.

However, you CAN add TV tuner functionality to a RAGE 128 PRO card, in one of the following ways:
Install ATI-TV WONDER (which does not require an AMC connector on the graphics card), or
Connect the composite video output of a VCR or other external tuning device to the composite video input of the RAGE 128 PRO (note - only specific models of ATI's RAGE 128 PRO products have a video input).

Niether one of my VHS players have a compostie vido out!

I am trying to sell my ATI TV Wonder VE for $50 Still shrink wrapped if your interested. Now. There are multiple ways to do what you want. One way is to just have your software burn as you input. I recomend doing this @ 1X if you do it. The other method is to capture the film into a file. Mpeg2 or Mpeg. After that you can then use just about any software that you have to make a menu system if you wish and then burn it how you like. Its best to work with Mpeg2 files as that is what a DVD is. Join us in the TechIMO chat. A few of the regulars might be able to help you out.

the method I use is to play the tape to my tv tunner and record it to the hard drive then render it and burn it to the dvd cd

also I can play the tape from the camcorder directly to the digital recorder which also puts it on the hard drive for burnning to the dvd useing nero

What do you mean by "render it"?

No, I was busy last night setting up the DVD/VHS player for the children. While I was at it I ran the the audio out to the stereo.
