Talk Goodbye DSL & Frontiernet!

Though it may be a painful few weeks until I get another service, I have up and cancelled my DSL service from Frontiernet. I actually managed to get them to refund two months service this time, as my last call to their customer service department beared no fruit (I didn't really try hard that time, though).

So goodbye $50/month DSL. Goodbye days with speeds worse than old school AOL. Goodbye extremely rude tech support. Goodbye unskilled tech support! Goodbye days and days with no connection at all. Goodbye being told to buy a better package if I wanted better service!

It looks like I'll be getting a wireless broadband connection, as there's an outfit here in town that offers the service. Should average 512Mbit synchronous! That will be nice. Perhaps I'll finally get around to hosting one of the domains I've leased!

Goodbye SJ! I'm done reading this thread.

Well, let's hope that the company that provides this service is well above par for this town. I have not had good experiences business wise in this town when it comes to my money (have had some excellent customers, though).

sorry to hear of your connection troubles SJ. I'm on Earthlink DSL myself, but since Verizon is my phone co. they're capping my speeds at half of what it is supposed to be I've called Earthlink and Verizon but neither wants to take the blame for my speeds being below 768 at all times, even though I live very close to the CO.

512/128 adsl is pretty standard in the uk around 25-30 pounds a month (41.42-50.90 us dollars http://www.xe.com/ucc/ ) but my service has been pretty reliable with just a few hours outage so far.

I'm now on DSL, and I'm very disappointed.

Yes it's faster than my old dialup... when there are not too many people connected.

At least my dialup didn't stop in the middle of a loading page trying to get some bandwidth.

Cable is affected by the amount of people, not DSL.

Yes that is true, BUT the ISP can be affected by the amount of people & bandwidth being used, which can cause crappy ISP's DSL to bog when a lot of people are on it! Much like frontiercrap! Not the same type of bog as cable's as cable has a medium bottleneck, DSL only has the service provider bottleneck as each line can designate plenty of throughput. Or something like that...
