AntiVirus for Linux?

hello all!
as a relatively n00b when it comes to *nix, I got to thinking...how is my computer safe on the internet? I'm blocking some cookies and I won't go to specific websites known for adware, but are the proggies marketed for *doze computers also marketed for *nix puters? (mcaffee, norton av, symantec, etc)

the second question would be with a firewall...I'm running Red Hat 8.0 and i'm using my college T1 LAN...would there be a way to configure a firewall on my system to work with my school firewall, or would that be overkill?

thanks, everyone, for your time reading and responding.

there are very few viruses that attack linux boxes.

so you dont need software for it

there is software for it tho. and i think the firewall and your school firewall would be overkill

Configuring a firewall is simple, and i wouldnt consider it too much overkill. Just start iptables and exclusively open the ports you want open, everything else will remain closed by default. Note, iptables will block incoming connections, but will remembver outgoing connections and allow that traffic back in, so there is no need to worry about opening ports for anything except servers you run.

Antivirus isn't really needed unless you're running wine or sharing docs with windows boxes. I'd recommend AVP (kaspersky) but I think its expensive. There will surely be some free ones as well, but as with windows AV, the free ones aren't normally as good.
