Kids Media Player Won't Launch...WTF?

Hey guys!

I'm having Windows Media Player issues here...I was getting all kinds of errors using WMP 9.0, so I uninstalled it and went back to
using WMP 6.4, which works fine if I launch a movie file from my hard drive. However, when I try to click a movie link from the web, I get this:

That is from this thread:
http://www.techimo.com/forum/t85961.html

I have to right click, "save target as" to my hard drive and watch it from there if I want to see it. Pain in the @ss!

I can watch .asf files directly from the web, no right click "save as" download necessary.

I've associated EVERY single WMP file type to the 6.4 version...still didn't help. I'm not sure what to try next.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Jason

What's the OS?

Here's what is likely nothing more than a quick fix (though I do recommend it over all the other media players) for your video needs:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli

Get Media Player Classic. It's a really nice player.

EDIT: Call me retarded. I don't think is even going to be a quick fix for your problem. Give the media player a try though anyway - it's pretty good.

It's XP...how silly of me to forget, that's always the first question I end up asking people.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out now!

Eh.. check my edit. I don't think is going to fix it. So did you try re-installing WMP 8? I don't think XP is supposed to work right with less than 8.

D'oh! Just saw your last post...I downloaded the Classic version, associated file types with it, now I get the same windows as before, but with the famous red X in the white box.

This shows the associated file types:

Maybe I'll have to try 8.0?

Hmm...

Yeah, I read your first post too quickly (I'll blame it on the time change - that always messes people up ).

I can't get mpeg files to open with anything but WMP simply by left clicking on them or when trying to epen them from a web link. I made the associations just like you did in the above picture but Windows just ignores my changes and uses WMP anyway.

I'd give a reinstall of WMP8 a try. As far as players go I think WMP is pretty gay but apparently it's required.

Edit: I'm using XP Pro
