WINDOWS SETUP AHHH!!!!
AHHHH!!!
Ok heres the deal, reinstalled windows, and of course everything that was already installed now has to be REINSTALLED bc of registry errors.....errrrr....so now I went to repair windows b/c I was having problems and everything was going fine and now when I restart it's asking me for a Compaq??? disk????
I am in tech support for my school and I used the WINXP cd that they use which isn't for compaq computers and now I can't go any further, i'm trying to get to the dos prompt and I don't know how, i'm about to just format my C drive and reinstall windows cause this is giving me such a headache....any ideas I really need some or is there anyway to "delete" the setup files and avoid the "compaq" issue??

compaq computers need to be restored with the compaq restore cd,
the xp cd will not have all the files you need, they are only on the restore cd.

ok lets see if I understand the question correctly.
you said you are reinstalling xp and it keeps asking you for the compaq didk,
so what am I missing here if the computer is not a compaq.
you must be useing something differant than what you said

Format the drive when you go through the setup. That would be a completely fresh install and should work just fine. You're not using a copied XP cd are you?

I would do a clean install
on the setup option select other and delet the partition and then install it on the clean drive.
it will then install with a new system, be sure you have the cd key written down before you start, as it will ask for it

Asking for a compaq disk could mean it's asking for the device driver disk for something in the computer that is Compaq. e.g. the optical drive?
