HP Photosmart 7150

I custom built this computer for my teacher and I have to give it to her today. I reinstalled windows to make sure nothing extra was on the comp. I try to reinstall the printer and it says that the printer is not responding. The scanner is doing fine but the printer isn't. When I plug the printer into the usb port it makes the dinging sound to show that it recongnizes that something was put in the port but then on the screen that is suppost to detect the printer it says that it can't find the printer because it is not plugged in or it is not turned on. It is turned on and I have tried all the USB ports and both of the USB cables. I know the usb ports work because the scanner works on all of them but not the printer. Could somebody plz give me some advice in what to do. TY.

did you install the drivers and software as per instructions.

do not connect the printer, install the drivers and software, connect the printer when asked to connect the printer

I am. I have the same printer on my upstairs computer. When I connect the printer when it says to the little bubble pops up and says new hardware found....7150... but then the program never finds it. So windows is finding it just not the HP install program.

When I boot up this pops up like it should but like I said the program can't find it.

if you do not install it this way, it will not work properly.

another tip that may help, it to unplug the printer from the computer and the power source wait a few minutes and then reconnect, this usallys fixes the problem by reseting the printer.

I am useing the 7550 and a 1218 at the same time.
they work great, best printers I have ever bought, except for the laser one

another thought, if your useing xp, be sure you have sp1 installed
or the usb ports will not work properly

Well when I try to install that way it says finished and the screen closes then it pops up again and it keeps having me reinstall it and it won't stop then when I hit cancel it says that there is an error installing it and that it might not work properly.

do you do the unstall or remove the printer before you reinstall ?

I will try that and post....it uninstalls usually if it doesn't work though.
