Sony makes decent headphones, check them out. I use a $30 pair from them (Model MDR-V250) that work fine, and have a volume control along with a switch to set either mono or stereo output. This is usefull for listening to mono recordings, so it comes out of both earphones. Their MDR-V700DJ set is $150 and sound real good. Look into Sony stuff, head on over to Best Buy/Fry's Electronics, etc and Amazon.com to see who thinks what is best.

While I can't recommend a set of 'phones I will suggest that you take notice of how long the cord that comes with them is. I've got an inexpensive set (by your standards) and greatly prefer them over other pairs I have because of the longer cord.

Good luck finding something you like.

That review sounds good but keep in mind it was written over two years ago. I doubt that headphones change as quickly as computers do I'd be looking for newer info before I purchased anything.

My faves, all of which have a street price of around $100 are the Sony MDR 7506's (very honest and extended low end, top end a bit hyped), the AKG 240 M's or S's (the reverse, bottom a bit hyped, top very neutral), or the Sennheiser HD-280's (I'm still picking them apart).
