Intel or AMD for DVD burning?
My Celeron 1 gig just doesn't cut it when it comes to burning DVD movies from my hard drive. Nero recommends a 1.7 minimum for encoding and I believe it. Obviously an upgrade is in order...
I've been waiting for a bonus cheque to buy an 7N400 Pro and an XP2500+, but a used P4 2.4 533 and Abit BH7 has popped up locally for less money than the brand new AMD chip and Gigabyte board. Which do you guys think would be the better value?

listen, AMD=VALUE!!!
getting a p4 will probably cost you more than a 2500 with a mobo
well, close enough

Umm... I asked which would be the better deal, a used P4 2.4 w/ BHz or a new XP2500+ w/ 7N400 Pro (probably Pro2). The used P4 setup is around $80 Canadian cheaper than the brand new AMD parts.

Just a thought.... When you buy used, you get what you pay for. If $$ is a concern, is the seller trustable? If you don't know for sure, you may be spending more in the long run......

Eli, the P4's are great for Multimedia stuff, they tend to lead AMD in most areas(of multimedia), If this is all you'ld use the machine for then go for it, you souldn't be dissapointed. If you check with the benches you'll see the differences (and where each excels)
I use strictly AMD, but my machines need strong FPU's..

If you go with AMD stay away from a VIA chipset.

The abit and P4 would be pretty strong.

I dunno... I'd prefer an Intel setup, but I also want the onboard features of a brand new 7N400. What to do, what to do...
It's my primary machine, used for everything from Autocad to Warcraft 3 to DVD burning. Up until the DVD encoding issue the good ol Celeron 1 gig has been more than adequate.
Who would've thought that the expensive setup would be the AMD one? lol
