edting dv files

I've just bought a digital camcorder. it came with a little software. Unfortunately its only putting still images on my pc. How can I download the actual movies onto my pc and make my own video cd's?

Does your camera and computer both have a firewire port? If so, do you have the cable for it? If not, buy the cable and post back.

I've used the Pinnacle Systems DV 500 video editing system before and used Adobe Premiere as the editing software.

What software is packaged with the program?

As well, I hope you have a very large hard drive, as the raw dv files are very very large.

Well, it depends on the quality that you're streaming to your hard drive, but on average the raw DV files are normally 1GB per minute of footage.

It all just depends on how much video you want to edit at one time. The more GB's you have free on your hard drive, the more minutes of video you can have on there.

Also, you need RAM too. I'm talking at least 512MB. And and good proc. Although you don't have to have a fast CPU, it will definitely help when you're encoding the video after editing.
