While I can't comment on the crayon trick, here's what I'd use in order of best to worst -

Airbrush/Airsprayer
High-quality spraypaint
Brush

I happen to have an airsprayer myself, hooked up to a fat air compressor, and can attest to it's quality. If you can find one of those, go for it. But regular spray paint will work fine.

I just painted both of my drives with the Chameleon paint while waiting for replacement parts. I just removed the faceplates, hung them on a coat hanger and sprayed them outside....looks like a million bucks. Now, depending on the effect you are going for, you may want to look into dying them instead of painting as dye will hold up better ( not wear off ).

i'm always reading about using vinyl dye as opposed to spray paint for plastics and while they may work better, i've never had any problems with just spray painting my plastic parts. Just make sure theyre all very clean and free of oils and the such (do that y cleaning them with rubbing alcohol or another similar cleaner) and don't go hog wild with the spray paint, i've done many drives and case bezels with great results. as far as keeping the logos on the drives i'v e heard to use a small paint brush and some vaseline or, if youre good, masking tape and an exacto knife. hope everything works out and post results when youre done

try masking up a new logo with letraset or similar transfer lettering.you can get laquers to set this, or go over everything with logo colour then letraset your logo, go over everthing in final colour, carefully remove the letraset and your logo should show through. pita, but worth it for your own logo, maybe. when i sprayed my megadrive (genesis) i just masked the logos, but didn't completely like the black background. i'm lazy, though lol

If you are only going to re-color the plastic front of a drive I suggest vinyl dye from the auto paint store or somewhere that sells paint. This stuff goes on perfectly without much build up. Just be sure to clean the surface per directions on the can.

Edit: I believe that is the same stuff Linear1 is using.
