Wireless NIC locks up new PC

So here's the problem. My sisters boyfriend ordered her new computer for her from ibuypower.com
It got here yesterday and we stuck a dlink 520+ in it to get it on our wireless lan. We followed dlinks instructions for installing it, install drivers, shut down pc, install nic, boot back up. A couple seconds after windows starts it freezes. Its not a full crash because it responds but it takes so long to respond its impossible to do anything, including move the mouse enough to click on something.
We tried calling DLinks tech support, they said it was a bad card. Its not, I stuck it in this computer and its what im using now. The card that was in this computer is doing the exact same thing in her new one. Its also a dlink 520+.
We tried calling ibuypower.com tech support. They said to update the bios. That was the biggest pain in the butt ive had in a long time. I find linux drivers for obscure devices easier than I could get drivers for her motherboard. Which of course ibuypower.com had no links to at all.
Had to look at her invoice to figure out what motherboard was in there. After a few hours finally got an updated bios for he motherboard. Flash bios reboot make sure its working. Shut down installed card again and booted back up. As soon as windows starts up slooooooooooooooooow. New bios didnt do anything. So here's the dilema. Do we try to get ibuypower to send us a different motherboard, which if they dont we have to buy a different wireless nic which wont work as well on our dlink network cause dlink likes it like that. ORrrrrrrr can someone help me figure out whats causing the problem.

Here's the system specs.
Motherboard: Powercolor 865APE 800FSB
CPU: Intel P4 2.8ghz
Harddrive 120gig (im not sure on brand its not listed on invoice and I cant see it without removing it)
Ram: 1 gig of whatever the default ram ibuypower ships for pc3200 ddr 400
Video: Nvidia EVGA FX5200 128mb
OS: Windows XP Pro fully up dated drivers and patches and service packs
They also have a 6 in 1 media card reader that came preinstalled with the system.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I tried uninstalling the media card reader and its still doing it so thats not where the conflict lies.
Also it took about ten minutes but i got task manager open and it didnt look like anything was running that shouldnt be and hogging resources.
I got the nic resources page open too, and it was showing no conflicting devices.

You might want to put the NIC card in a different PCI slot. Also are you getting any signal when the system is running?

One of the reasons you might have a slow system response is that the NIC is trying to obtain an address from the DHCP server. I had several problems with my DLINK wireless NIC when that was the case. It was a pain fixing it, but eventually I get it after numerous reboots.

GL to you

Ive tried every different pci slot. The DHCP server is working properly, but it doesnt matter because I cant even configure the wireless card so it can get an IP since the system freezes as soon as it boots.
