many problems w/ new cpu

I have been having numerous problems ever since I tried to install my new cpu (amd athlon xp 2000). I have tried to find help on the amd boards but nothing has worked so far. Because it would take to long to describe all the problems I am simply posting the link from the other boards. http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=1170

can anyone help me?

but, most of my videos (flash on websites as well) had alot of colorful noise on them (static blue/green/red dots/lines).
so i switch the motherboard for the msi kt4vl hoping that would fix it.
and set the multiplier and clock speed to 12.5x133mhz.
Every time that you change something major like the motherboard or CPU a clean install is what's needed, otherwise you'll be fighting driver/settings conflicts.

The steps that work best for a new install:
  • Assemble hardware.
  • Install operating system.
  • Install motherboard drivers
  • Install video drivers
  • Install any other drivers.
  • Run WindowsUpdate repeatedly until they're all installed.
  • Lastly, install your other software.

This has been the smoothest method that I've found for builds.

What operating system???

If its W98se or ME..you may be able to just run regedit and delete the "hkey local machine/enum" folder..then reboot and it will re-detect all the hardware....probably will take several reboots and even then you will have a few things detected twice (keyboard) that you will have to delete again and reboot.

If its W2k/XP...go to the local store..get you a few soft drinks and some chips..sit back and do a nice re-install of windows.

One thing that you might try is to back off the memory timings when you set the clock speed up to 133. The artifacts in the video could be caused by slightly too aggressive settings.

What drivers are you using for the video? I switched to the Omega drivers on suggestion from another member and just love them. My games seem to run smoother now.

okay, i downloaded those omega drivers and I still have the video problems. i should note that although most of the videos have this problem about 1/4 dont (not any specific file type either).

as for the memory timing, i looked at my motherboard manual to try to figure out how to change it, but it made no sense to me. right now i think i have everything set to auto.

hmmm i haven't messed with a kg7 in a while , but after looking around i found a manual for it try this go into the softmenu and change the fsb rate (cpu: sdram: pci ) from 3:3:1 , thats the defualt to 4:4:1 .

i am thinking that you has it set at 133 fsb but the pci is running at 1/3 of 133 which is way to high . now this is just a guess but i think that also runs the agp speed and if i am right with the fsb at 133 and the fsb rate set at 3:3:1 your running your apg at like 83mhz instead of 66mhz . if it is at 83 that is way outta spec and will make your video ugly in 3d .

give it a try and see if it helps

and as i said before, my 3d works perfect and much better than it did with the old processor. only video (avi, mpeg, flash, etc) is affected.
