my friends powersupply smoked,and hard drive and motherboard.
I bought a new mb and cpu and gave him my asus mb and cpu and put in his case with his new drive.keeps saying error 40 floopy,i changed cables and other floppys and still,whats the legacy in bios? its very frustrating a stupid lil floopy not letting me format his new drive

Maybe the floppy drive is fried also? Try another one.

i dont know if this will help you but this exact thing happened to me a couple days ago. i got an error(40) something to do with the floppy all of a sudden. All i did to fix this was pull out my floppy cable and plug it back in again nice and tight. seeing as you've already changed the cable though? i dunno try jamming it in there real good, thats all i had to do

I tried 4 other spare floppy drives and a brand new cable ?This motherboard worked fine in my tower.there is only one type of floppy isnt there?

yeah i think any kind of floppy drive that connects with that cable should work with it, maybe you've just got really unlucky and gotten two bad cables? or maybe you broke/bent a pin when you xfered the mobo? i dunno, but im pretty sure that error means that it knows the drive is there, but it cant communicate with it right for whatever reason

Make sure you don't have the floppy cable plugged in upside down. They have to in a certain way - that funky twist you see in the cable is actually a jumper setting.
