Kids Built new system ......Help!

We have just finished building our 1. PC and now need help.
After installing all the hardware and trying to boot up, we don't get any video.
Everything seems to be working and the monitor is hooked up correctly because the light comes on but that's all that is happenig.
The Post test seems to be ok because I can hear only 1 beep.
I think that at this point I'm supposed to put in a boot up disk.
Which one????
We have a brand new copy of WinXP Home with SP1.(Not the upgrade) I can only make the bootup disk when I install the OS,right?

Mobo:Asus P4P 800 Deluxe (w. install.CD)
Processor: P4 /800/ 2.8 GhZ
Video: AIW Radeon 9800 Pro (w.install.CD Catalyst Software)
Sound: Soundblaster Audigy Gamer (w. install CD)
Power: Antec 550W (for true 550 ATX)
Ram: Kingston 512 MB DDR (400)

HDD: Western Digital EIDE 200 GB( w. driver disk vers.1.0 and Data Lifeguard Tools disk).

Storage: CD Rom (Lite-on) + DVD Rom (Creative Labs) both from our previous system which ran Win98SE.

The problem: Everything seems to power up ( w. 1 beep). The monitor powers on but the screen stays blank.
Checked all the connections, etc.

Question:

What system disk do I start out with?
I have tried different ones with no sucess.

Any ideas ???????????

Are you saying that there is nothing on the screen at all or is there the boot info? If nothing at all reseat your video card and if it has more then one output on the video card try the other one.

best to go in small steps:

Install video card, ram, and processor.
The POST should display a B &W screen, showing the vid card and ram, mem test, and halt on Press F!, delete, (whatever) to enter setup.

Enter setup, and go to the system health page. watch the processor temps for about 10 minutes. should level off between 40 and 50 degress C, not above 55. It it doesn't, the heat sink/fan is not properly installed.

Next, enter the cmos page and set the system date and time. If you do it later, you may lose the 30 day period for activating Windows XP.

Next, enter advanced BIOS features, and set the first boot device to CD Rom. Make sure it is not listed as a second or third.

Begin adding the IDE devices, and check the cmos screen with each POST to see if it is recognized.

when everything is installed and ready to go, Put the Windows CD in the CD drive, and should enter the setup and install process. You should be able to format the hard drive (not quick format) with the window CD. this process can take from 20 minutes to one hour to fully install windows, depending on your system.

that should get you started, keep posting your progress.

Your monitior is fine. Reinstall your video card; I made the same mistake with my own PC, and thought I'd fried something. Good luck

Thank you to all who have replied.
I appreciate it very much.
As it turned out.....I needed an adapter from the video card to our "NEC" LCD monitor.
Everything in the system is working great!
We're very happy with our first home build PC.
Got all the parts from NewEgg.com. They were great!
So, thanks again!
