Help me burn one in

Gonna start building my third system later this afternoon. I want to start by running it at stock speeds, then try some tweaks (Particularly Windows XP hacks), and maybe a mild overclock as the next step.

I would appreciate your input as to what one or two simple burn in and benchmarking proggies are good for a beginner. I want to use it to chart my progress, and am not concerned about video card performance or beating anybody's numbers.

From the research and reading I have done, my best guess is gonna be Prime 95, and memtest 86.

Also, how much and how long should you run a burn in test before being satisfied with the results?

New build specs, for Dual Monitor internet surfer and 2d Gaming:

Shullte MN31N mobo, dual VGA onboard
Barton 2500+
Thermaltake atx360W Silent Purepower
Zalman CNPS 3100 Quiet CPU cooler
512 MB Kingston Value Ram PC 2700
WD SE 80gig 8mb
Maxtop Case with side, top BB fans
Galaxy Bc-9901 fan controller
Standard Cdrom for now.

Thanks in advance, DD

SiSoft is great for everything expcept for graphics, I'd say. For that, get 3DMark2001, and 3DMark2003- or maybe not 03; you didn't specify your card

That makes it the nforce2 onboard card, which is equivilent to a slow MX.

Shameless bump and quick question. Is Sisoft a free download or should I purchase a version? Can I save it to a cd for future builds?

Just wanna get it right the first time, and use it as the common denominator for future tweaks/builds..

I'm putting it together now, thanks for the input.

I've been thinking about it. Confirming registry hacks eats up O/S's. I haven't wanted to play that game for a while now. It's hard to work on the site after working all day/week as there aren't enough hours in a day. I'm sure a few of you will agree. 60 hour work weeks are a killer. (Paychecks are nice though.)

On average it takes about 3 hours per page. Some less and some more. From graphics to text to template to upload is all time consuming. I have lots of tips stored away for the day of reconing.
Day of reconing = second week of layoff

S, S & shave, supper, TV, a little computer and off to bed is all I have time for presently.

Cheers!
