I remmber upgrading from my 2x86 to my mega-fast AMD-powered 5x86!!!

I know that we still use the x86 arcitecture, so I wondered what level are were on now? 15x86 or soemthing?

686 actually. But we are getting an upgrade to x86-64 architecture, thanks to AMD's Clawhammer (I think they jsut call it the Athlon 64 though).

Yes, 686 is what we are up to now. Not sure which processor was first givin that name of 686. I think around the athlon or pentium 3 copermine processors

I'm thinking the PIIs were 686s. 586s were the Pentiums.

Redwolf is correct.

586's were 66 - 233 MHz
686's are everything since then. pII/III/IV as well as the whole k6 family

I think we're in the 7th (7x86) generation now and seeing a beginning of a new generation starting with 1x46 (amd64).
