Hello, sam. Welcome to Live Technical Support. My name is Jhan.
IAMTHESAM stated the question or problem as: i have 9.0. how do i make AOL stop askin me if i want to stay on line.
Are you contacting us about the computer you are using? You said: yes.
AOLTechTJD: Pleased to meet you.
IAMTHESAM: i leave my computer on line 24/7 runnin cancer reserch and it boots me off if i stay in active for a while
AOLTechTJD: America Online has Idle Timer feature. The Idle Timer helps AOL balance the traffic load for members.
IAMTHESAM: is this only on 9.0?
IAMTHESAM: never had the problem with 8.0 or earler
AOLTechTJD: Sometimes members sign online and then leave their computers unattended for hours on end. The timers are designed to help eliminate busy signals caused by these members who aren't actually using AOL, by disconnecting those who don't click on OK.
IAMTHESAM: is ther a way to disable this
AOLTechTJD: I apologize but there is no way to disable or extend the timers. This feature is implemented universally across AOL to help minimize the number of busy signals on AOL access numbers by disconnecting those people who aren't actually at their computers.
IAMTHESAM: ok
AOLTechTJD: Because the timer is there to help prevent busy signals, it's only activated after the access number you are using reaches 75% of its maximum capacity. You will only get the timer messages when your access number is busy.
AOLTechTJD: AOL is constantly expanding and adding access numbers. To minimize the number of timer messages you receive, check Keyword: ACCESS frequently for new and less busy access numbers. Remember, you only receive the timer when your access number is busy.
IAMTHESAM: even with DSL
AOLTechTJD: Are you using the AOL DSL?
IAMTHESAM: yes
AOLTechTJD: I apologize, as much as I would like to help you with this matter, we do not have any available information regarding that in this area. But I can point you to the proper department.
AOLTechTJD: You can contact our DSL consultants in two ways. First you can call them at: 1-888-418-
5320 24 hours a day.7 days a week. The call is free. Calling early in the day usually reduces the waiting time to speak to a consultant.
IAMTHESAM: thanks
