Outlook Express Error

When I try to open Outlook Express I get an error that says:

"C:\Windows\System32\avgxch32.dll could not be installed or loaded, you maybe out of system resources."

By the name I an thinking the error has something to do with a program called AVG antivirus which I had downloaded and installed recently but since deleted when I updated my subscription to Norton Antivirus.

I have no idea what to do to get rid of the error.

Would anyone know what might fix this? I am using Windows XP.

You might try reinstalling AVG and make sure you have OE closed during the process. It's probably gonna reboot.

After you reinstall it, try uninstalling it, again, make sure OE is closed.

Go to this registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Run) and delete the entry referring to avgxch32.

If it is not listed there, then do a search through the registry for avgxch32 and delete any entries.

"...deleted..." may be the key to the problem. You're supposed to un-install programs that you don't want to run amymore. Mearly deleting program files doesn't clean registry entries that are still looking for the files you deleted. And BTW, bad move deleting AVG and going with Norton, IMHO.

Thanks EvilRick, Downloading AVG and uninstalling it again work, no more error message.

Thanks meese, I'm glad I didn't have to go that far and get into the registry to fix this.

TOAD6147, bad choice of words for me, sorry. I said delete but meant uninstalled. I had unistalled it previously but something must have gotten left behind. Thanks for your opinion on the anti virus. I'm pretty new to computer and don't know whats good and whats not.

"Bloatware" is just a term used to describe software that takes up a lot of space. More than what is really needed to run the application and having a lot of smaller applications that aren't necessarily needed to actually do the job. M$ Office is considered bloatware.

I have read a couple of posts around TIMO that state AVG isn't really that great, even though it is free. I have been using NAV for years now. I've used AVG before, but find it may not catch everything. I'll try and find the link or post that shows a comparison of all AV's out there.

Thanks EvilRick, I would like to read those threads. And thanks for explaining bloatware. It seems to me that even though Norton might take up more space, as long as it catchs everything it's worth it.
