Screwed myself, what to do :)

Well, I was in the process of removing a backup tonight from one of my machines.

Unfortunately instead of typing rm -rf etc I typed rm -rf /etc

This left me in quite the prediacment. Since I hadn't deleted the backup, I moved etc /etc

Upon reboot I found this to be an old backup from another machine. (Drake 9.1 instead of 9.2) With a little tinkering in fstab I now have everything booting again and *appearing* to work.

Now, here is my delimma, what to do?
1) Upgrade my drake 9.1 box to 9.2 and copy /etc?
2) See if the drake 9.2 disks think this install is 9.1 and will upgrade it?
3) Fresh install (don't feel like doing this as I just spent hours setting up mythtv perfectly)

Anyone forsee any problem with my copied /etc? Only thing I can think of are init scripts I didn't use and XF86Config. I guess I could have some user issues for programs, but that isn't difficult to spot if it does happen. Lilo.conf needs to be redone, but that is simple enough. httpd.conf will need to be changed.

Other than that I don't see any *huge* problems. Anythign I am misisng?

Big fat bummer.

I really think I would try Option 2 first. That would be easier than digging through all the config files and since you have /etc from a 9.1 install, I would expect 9.2 to treat it accordingly. I'm at work ATM, but I'm pretty sure there is a file in /etc with the distro and version which is what the installer looks at.

The upgrade failed miserably as it did not like that I had newer packages than it (I had already done some security updates).

I just went ahead and reinstalled. Lesson learned I guess.
