service packs for windows 2kpro

Which of the four do you guys think has the most bugs and to avoid downloading?

i have installed service pack 4 running it on the laptop with no problems so far

Did you notice any differences when upgrading to SP4? Faster boot times, less crashes, etc? Thanks.

SP4, SP2 not much better than no SP! Ran with no SP for a couple of months, got fed up, ran with SP2 for a few months, got fed up, installed SP4 on all machines. Sweet.

Actually I dont like the Service packs that have been released after SP2 for Windows 2000 Professional because IMO they try and add stuff that makes it more like XP. I currently use 2000 with SP2 without no problems and before I installed SP3 and I went back to SP2 because I didnt like what it changed and added and with it my Windows 2000 Professional became slower with no reason too. I havent tried SP4 for it though but since I dont have any problems what so ever now I wont untill I really need to.

So i should either upgrade to SP2 or SP4 eh? How about those security updates? My friend installed all the ones windows recommend to get after he installed SP2 and after he rebooted, his explorer kept on having problems and not even opening up on startup which made him have to reformat his computer. Should i stay away from those security updates patch things? Thanks.

What I've done is make a drive image before installing any service packs. Saves on headaches.

I would just install Service pack 2 and not worry about the security patches after that since many have xperienced problems with them, and its a huge amount. I would install Service pack 4 if you are worried about beeing up2date and stuff like that but in my experience installing just service pack 2 and nothing else has worked well, at least for me. You should remember that Microsoft consider all the Windows 2000 Professional service packs as recommended upgrades not critical
