Problems with serial drive on warm boot

My system is has a 120GB serial drive and a 40GB IDE drive, cdrw and DVD drives. Mobo is Asus A7N8X Deluxe, WinXP OS, 1GB dual channel 3200 ram, 450W Antec PS, boot order is floppy/scsi/hdd0.

The system always hangs doing a warm reboot where it should detect the primary SATA drive. I've tried various combinations of BIOS and SATA drives, 3rd party BIOS, and the same thing happens.

If I turn off the system and restart it, it boots up perfect every time. There are no other problems with the system, it's stable running for days without a reboot.

Stalling at that exact point has always happened with this mobo. It happened when the 40GB IDE drive was the boot drive and the serial drive was used as a second drive; it happens when only the Serial drive is connected and the 40GB IDE drive is removed. I haven't tried booting without both cd drives plugged in just to see if that makes any difference.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a fix? Possibly some setting in the BIOS that might help or any suggestions to get this to stop?

The only thing I can think of is that it is writing to the BIOS cache, which may be remaining when you re boot sending erroronious instructions. When you shut down and then re start you are reloading a fresh copy of your BIOS back into the cache.

Try turning cache bios to "off" .

Just a thought, I'm really reaching here....

Is their tech support any help?

BIOS cache was already disabled, I tried it enabled and same thing.

Will try contacting their tech support. Their forums seem down indefinitely, was hoping it would be a few weeks or so only.

If anyone else has any suggestions, I'm game to try them!
