very old DECstation question

Alrighty, lets go way back to those yesteryear computers~

I have a few digital DECstation 5000/25's that when "booted" only has a small square in the left lower corner of the monitor.

I also have a digital ALpha powered Multia that exibits the same thing.

What am I missing/doing wrong on the setup? Anyone out there that remembers anything to do with this?

Now I feel old. No ">>", I think Ctrl C will get it. Are you using Linux?
