Win XP dialup speed limited to 26400...help!

How to get Windows XP Home to bring dialup speed above 26,400.
Have tried MTU adjustments, different scripts and it is always the same, 26,400 or below but never above.
ISP shows it is a V-90 56K connection and everyone says the problem is in Windows itself.
Any ideas?

Go into your Dial up connection properties for that connection and check what the maximum speed (bps) and make sure the connection speed is at 115200.
If that isn't the problem, make sure your not using a large cable to your phone jack. Also if this hasn't happened before, then maybe you need to try calling your isp and sort this out.
If this is the first time you tried connection with dial up, then maybe you are pretty far from the CO, or the par gain lines would need to be upgraded to digital as I have a buddy who can only connect at 28k since his area doesn't have digital.

I'll never forget getting my first 56k modem. Spent days trying to get it past 26.6. Replaced phone line from modem to wall jack and all was one with the universe. But, it could be any number of things...
