Win 2000: "Cannot Find Server" error

Recently, for some reason my windows 2k started this in Ie and AOL. I know how to fix it with a winsock patch in 9x, but i cannot find any info on this for 2k. Anyone have a patch, or info on resolving this, it's a real pain.

Is your computer hooked up to a cable router by any chance? I was getting "cannot find server" errors on certain sites. I reset my router back to defaul and it solved the problem. I was able to view sites when using AOL but not IE before I reset though so not sure if this is the same issue as you.

No, i can't view the web in either, i AM connected wirelessly, however other wireless computers in the house are just fine on the same settings, so i can only assume it's confined to the single laptop.

as for the winsock patch, there is none because win2k already runs winsock2 (which is what the patch upgrades to).

my advice is uninstall and then reinstall tcp/ip, that usually fixes universal network errors.

Do all of your other programs still access the web normally? Like your media players and programs like that?

that did it, thanks a lot. Just to be curious, what happens to cause that, seems wierd to me
