DirectCD..why is it weird?
Whats the deal with adaptecs DirectCD? I have recently started using it some for playing around with backups.
But it seems random to me.
I have direct cd running.
I put in the formatted cd..I get the popup telling me it is ready blah blah.
So I drag a .xls file to the D: where the formatted cd is. Then I go to my computer and open the D: and I see the file I just dragged. Ok, I am under the impression at that point that Ihave backud up a file, lol.
I eject the cd and put it back in and the file is no longer there....?? Whats up with that??
It does the same if I do "send to" and "send" the file to the D:
Am I doing something wrong?? Is there any possible way I closed the cd?? I dont think so cuz I havent moved it off of the default check block on the pop up for when you eject the cd.
Any ideas?? A backup isnt very good if you arent sure if it works.
Thanks, JP

Are you running winXP? I think what is happening is winXP's burning support & directCD aren't playing nicely...

win98se.
Personally, I dont think the technology is there yet.
When I tried to use the things a coupl eyears back I got all kinds of issues. The other techs always told me not to install DirCD or INCD on users comps...cuz it was 2 much headache.
Now when I try to use DirCD..it seems to work half the time. I formatted the cd. Put some stuff on it..cool, I am overjoyed...thinking I have found something great for backups.
So I made a little batch file to send stuff to the DirCD...wow, even that worked.
But now its flaky.
For instance I sent an excel file to it. It shows up on the DirCD...I eject the cd....put it back in...the excel file isnt there anymore??? What the flip??!? Then last night, I put the excel file there again, lol....ejected the cd..put it back in..the excel file WAS there..so I thought I must have doen something wrong the other times....so I ejected again, put it back....THEN it was gone AGAIN! lol.
??????????????????? JP

hmm ok then...
havent really used directCD lately myself, but i used to use it a couple years ago with win98se and it worked fine for me, never had any problems at all.
are you making the sure the formatted CD is being mounted before you are checking for the files?

I had the same problems with directcd. Use to drive me crazy, but I stuck with the program for 4 years. Before I upgraded to XP Pro, I made sure all my directcd disks had been closed, because I knew the version I had would not work with XP Pro. 95% of those CDs are fine, but several which worked fine prior to the upgrade, now show empty folders, or appear as blank media. I lost some good files, but consider myself lucky that it wasn't worse.
I've been using XPs method of copying to CDs, and it's not too bad, once I got use to it.

"mounted".....huh?
As far as I know you just have DIR CD running and then when you happen to put a dir cd formatted cd in..it shows up as a "d: drive".
I have left the pop ups shwoing everytime so that I know for sure if it has recognized the cd as a Dir CD and it always does.
I look at "my computer" first to make sure the cd name "scratch" shows up.
The super weird thing is that today, I throw the cd in and the .xls file is on the cd again, lol.
Thats what i call stability and consistency!

Yeh, directCD has to "mount" the cd when you put it in, by default it does this automatically. And from the sounds of it, yours is no different (you get the pop-up saying the disc is ready to be used when you insert it, hence the disc has been mounted).
But yeh, i've got no idea what would cause so much inconsistency... Like i said before, when i used to use directCD i never had any problems at all.

Any one remember when you'd change a floppy and do a dir and get the contents pf the previous one? I'd try using right click eject in my computer whenever I change CD's.

For what it's worth, I had the exact same problem after upgrading from W2K to XP Pro. I gave up and went to Nero with INCD and haven't had a problem since.
